Well I will see your two decades and raise it to four decades. The Japanese have a heightened – even exceptionalist - sensitivity to how new Japanese slang words are generated, then overdone, then celebrated in the mainstream, then laid to rest, and I was in my twenties living in Japan when someone explained “it all comes from them!” pointing to a group of wittering junior high school girls on a train.
