New words from Teen Girls in your area

In linguistics it is expected that whatever you observe, someone else already knew that, and I already knew this.

This article by the ABC, says “Linguists are discovering…” (present tense) and then a couple of paragraphs later “The discovery that young women drive linguistic change is not new. More than two decades ago…” etc

Well I will see your two decades and raise it to four decades. The Japanese have a heightened – even exceptionalist  - sensitivity to how new Japanese slang words are generated, then overdone, then celebrated in the mainstream, then laid to rest, and I was in my twenties living in Japan when  someone explained “it all comes from them!” pointing to a group of wittering junior high school girls on a train.
